Is funky green the answer to everything?

Lately I have been noticing a strange pattern in my purchases: I feel less and less practical all the time. When Mike and I got married (over one year ago!), I registered for very white, and very practical dishes at Pottery Barn. I LOVE THEM. I figured that as long as the dishes were white, they'd go with anything I decided to buy later on. So I could still fall in love with trendy dish accessories, but my basics would always be beautiful and classy. I am super smart.

While decorating our apartment, and continuing to make small purchases here and there to finish up the task, I have noticed that I keep buying things that are funky green. I'm not sure what to call this color--it's just funky. Kind of avocodo, kind of a pea green. Regardless of its name, I love it, and it is becoming more and more prevalent in our very small San Francisco apartment.

My question(s) is(are) this: when is this color going to go out of style? When am I going to look back and laugh at how ugly it is? Will I ever? Will it die just like it did in the 70's? Is it worth it to enjoy the color for years until my kids refuse to live in a house accented with it? And am I crazy to think that all of these lovely funky green items are, well, lovely?

Okay, those two glasses are pretty ugly. I do not own them. (Sssh! I like the one on the right).

Even our blog has turned funky green. I get bored a lot so it will probably change, but it proves that I am having a love affair with this crazy color.

1 year!

On Sunday, Mike and I celebrated our first anniversary! I know it sounds cliche (and that it's cliche to say it sounds cliche), but part of me can hardly believe it has only been a year, and part of me can't believe it has been that long! We have both accomplished a lot this past year: we graduated from college, moved to another country, explored two countries, moved to a new city, started new jobs, have seen miracles in the lives of our families and friends, and have had wonderful growing experiences. We didn't do anything over the top to celebrate this year (especially because Mike decided to celebrate with killer food poisoning), but we loved being together and reminiscing.
I don't think I ever actually posted wedding or engagement pictures (over a year ago...ha), but I have put some of my favorites in this post. All of these pictures were taken by Anna Page. I love her and she did an absolutely perfect job capturing me, Mike, and our very special day.

Oh yeah! We share our anniversary with Robbie and Caitlin. Some people think it's weird that we had our wedding on the same day as them (how rude, right?), but Rob and Cait were happy to share the 19th with us...so happy anniversary to the Connolys, too!

All in all, it has been a great year. We're already planning our 50 year anniversary party (in Fiji). December 19, 2059. Mark your calendars!

Thanksgiving pictures.

This post should probably be titled "Conservatory of Flowers" pictures because that's mostly what it contains. I brought my point and shoot camera to Palo Alto for Thanksgiving and just forgot to whip it out most of the time. I did get a few pictures pre-meal, however. Please notice the amazing couches--I'm so glad they turned out so well!
And the beautiful cornucopia centerpiece. Becca really outdid herself and created an amazing spread of food for our crowded Thanksgiving feast!
The apple tart. Isn't that gorgeous!? I still need to get the recipe, because Mike was in heaven and wanted it for every meal.
Odysseus (Ody) the cockapoo. Oh, how we all love him! Many Johnsons have allergies, but we played with him just the same! Becca did an amazing job getting the apartment ready and allergy-proof for us. And I would like everyone to know that Ody loves me.
While the boys watched the BYU/Utah game (my dad and brother had tickets to the game and sacrificed them to be with us in CA), the girls headed up to the city to go to the Conservatory of Flowers. Mom also wanted to see my apartment, so we stopped by there and shopped at some of the little boutiques nearby.
Mini San Francisco at the Conservatory...pretty creative!

Mom loves flowers! The garden at home is always amazing. I'm not sure that I got her green thumb, but I did get some seeds to grow my own culinary herbs in the windowsill. I'm waiting until we get back from Christmas vacation to grow them. I have a sneaking suspicion that they're going to die quickly...
Sisters! And the return of my stubborn random chunk of hair...
Becca was kind enough to provide Kristin with a red sweater to support the U.
I have a confession to make. I loved the Conservatory, but I felt a little cheated. I was expecting more blossoms and less green/moss/cardboard San Francisco. Maybe I'm just spoiled rotten because I spent the summer living on a tropical island where flowers this beautiful were an everyday thing? I think that must be it. I'm stuck up after Tonga and Fiji. But there were still some beautiful flowers, and I got pictures...

Also included in this weekend: the Pixar exhibit in Oakland (so fun!), Maggiano's, Stanford Shopping Center, Swensen's ice cream (heaven, heaven, heaven), the name of the mall in San Jose that I can't remember but is amazing, Anthropologie (twice), delicious food, nephews, running charades, and more!

More pictures from Thanksgiving on Becca's blog. They are prettier than my pictures. :)
