I was kind of thrown off by the large amount of Christmas decor I saw right after Halloween. I love Christmas time, I love Christmas music, and I love Christmas...period. But I am not ready to welcome it yet.
That being said, I have started thinking a little bit about what I am going to do to decorate our apartment. Growing up, Christmas season officially began the day after Thanksgiving. Lights went up, stockings went up, and a heavenly smelling Christmas tree soon followed. The entire season was full of traditions that revolved around family and Jesus Christ. And while I love my family's traditions, I hope that Mike and I are able to begin our own. But how does that even work? Do you decide to start a tradition one year? Do you do something fun and decide to do it the next year because it was such a hit? And do you actually start your own or just mix and match from what was passed down from past generations?
My friend Wiola recently told me that because I am a Virgo, I am (insert word that I don't remember here), which means in part that I stress over tiny details no one cares about. I thought it was funny because it perfectly describes me, and also because she taught me the word (which didn't stick) even though English is her third language.
But I just love Christmas (and everything peppermint) a lot and hope it can always be as magical as it was when I was little. So I can't help but feel a bit of pressure.
Peppermint is at Pinkberry.
ReplyDeletePedantic: Overly concerned with minute details or formalisms
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see and, if I'm lucky, be a little part of, the traditions that help your family keep its balance!
ReplyDeleteLove you lots,
