"I'm so proud to see you today."

I have a very funny first grade student who is native Spanish speaker (as are most of the others).  But unlike many other students, he loves to (try) to speak English.  He has a ridiculous little accent that makes it all the more entertaining.  On Monday as we were walking down the hall together, we had this conversation:

Miss Melissa (Me-lee-sah), I am very proud to see you today.

What do you mean?

I am so proud to see you.  I haven't seen you for about one week.

You mean...tienes animo?  You are excited to see me today?

Yes, I am so proud to see you.

I couldn't really get the point across, but I was happy he felt proud to see me.  And mostly I just love little Spanglish speakers.
